Up at 05.00h to carefully pack. Cycling onto the Ferry in the clothes to travel in but carrying the cycling clothes that would be required at the other end. It took a bit of planning 🙄
Big bags at the van for 06.00h then off to the Ferry with a heavier than usual rucksack on my back (you´ll find out why later) 😉
Once onboard and checked in it was farewell to Ireland ☘️
We were onboard the Brittany Ferries Vessel Salamanca. Cabin was OK but a bit cramped as expected, just dropped the bag and headed straight for breakfast. We got underway on time at 08.00h ⛴️
The Bar didn´t open until 10.00h so I had to wait to get some ice.
I had a cunning plan but as I was waiting to execute it I couldn´t keep my eyes open. I went for a little lie down and woke up at 16.30h 😮 I was obviously needing it.
I was still dressed so went to the Bar and asked for some ice for my poor roommate who was having trouble with a sore knee. The Barman was very nice and happy to oblige.
About half an hour later I was watching a movie on my laptop with an ice cold can 😊😊😊
Now you know why the rucksack was so heavy, I had found a 2 x 4 packs of these little beauties in the petrol station shop as I was doing my laundry the night before 😊
It was a very long crossing, we were not due into Bilbao until 13.00h the following day but the rest was very welcome. I had a couple of cans, went for dinner and then an early night. I was thinking I might have difficulty sleeping but not a bit of it 😴 slept right through night until 07.00h.
By the time I had caught up with work, had some breakfast and then did a bit of direct fundraising it was time to get ready for the short (27km) cycle to the first hotel in Spain.
As soon as I had some coverage and before I was even off the boat more donations were coming in, thank you 🙏
